Local Roads Board!

ABOUT US

The Fenwick, Pennefather & Vankoughnet Local Roads Board services approximately 1,200 properties in the Goulais River Area. The board is comprised of 3 Board Members and a Secretary/Treasurer.


The local roads board meets annually or as often as it considers necessary and inspects the local roads in their area. The board works in conjunction with the Ministry of Transportation. 


Each of the board members are elected in a public meeting which is held annually. Monies from taxes and the government determine the amount allowable for road work that is done over the budget year. 


The annual roads board tax is proposed at the annual meeting and is taxed through the Ontario Ministry of Finance Provincial Land Tax Office in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Local Community Organizations

G.F.R.V. is now contracted annually by the Local Services Board of Goulais and District to provide fire protection services to their coverage area.  The geographical area protected are the entire townships of Fenwick, Haviland, Kars, Ley, Pennefather and Van Koughnet and the portion of Dennis township lying north of Goulais Bay known as Goulais Point.
